Barcelona have been riding high for the past decade or so, on the back of the brilliance of one man supported by the class and skill of a midfield the likes of which we may never see again.

But things are starting to change around Catalonia now, and all may not be necessarily rosy around the club.

Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta have both retired, and that has left a huge void in the Barca midfield, which poses problems for the indomitable Lionel Messi, who has largely relied on service from the duo in the past to score majority of his goals.

Though it is likely that a player of his ability will score regardless, there is also a concern among many that the Spanish giants may not have enough quality in the centre of the park to cause problems to competitive sides.

This issue was compounded in this summer window itself, when Antoine Griezmann historically rejected Barcelona to sign a new deal with Atletico Madrid, a move that has not gone down well with Messi and his peers at the club.

Now, it appears as though the Argentine is willing to take matters into his own hands to ensure Barcelona can compete with the top brass next season.

El Gol Digital is now reporting that Messi wants the club to begin bidding for new players in the market, and there are some that he specially wants to join the club so that they can take on the signings of arch-rivals Real Madrid.

A 6-player list issued by the forward includes Manchester United duo Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, while there are other impressive names such as Kingsley Coman, Julian Draxler, Mikel Oyarzabal, and Sadio Mane.

It is no secret that Messi has a significant amount of control over the affairs at Barcelona, but if the club does sign one or more of these players at his behest, it will be an interesting move to say the least.
