There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world today.

If nothing else, his incredible performances in the ongoing FIFA World Cup are enough to earn him the moniker of footballing god, especially if Portugal end up going far in the tournament. But all isn’t that rosy when it comes to his club career at Real Madrid.

The Portuguese hitman has boasted a mind-blowing record since joining the Galacticos in 2009, but he’s now getting older, and the constant changing of managers hasn’t helped settle down the mood around the Spanish capital.

Speculation of a return to Manchester United has been rife now more than ever, with the Reds willing to splash the cash for their once formidable talisman. Real Madrid may also be willing to part ways with Ronaldo, if reports from Diario Gol in Spain are to be believed.

The issue appears to be Ronaldo’s hefty claim of wages, with his demands rumoured to be around €45m per year, which would make him the richest footballer in the world, ahead of Lionel Messi. But Real are only willing to pay €25m per year with bonuses to their star man.

Why Ronaldo Kept Looking Sideways During Portugal’s National Anthem

This has opened the door for possible transfers, and the report suggests that an ambitious and complicated deal may be in the works, where Ronaldo, along with Karim Benzema, could be on the move, but United’s Romelu Lukaku would be prized their way instead.

The idea behind this is that Real Madrid need a number nine at the club, and with Benzema reportedly on the move anyway, Los Blancos would want to replace him at all costs.

Gareth Bale To Join Manchester United Under One Condition

It may well be either Benzema or Ronaldo, and if Manchester United is the destination, then Lukaku needs to go the other way.

Another possible deal mentioned by the source is that of Gareth Bale being offered by the Spanish giants to United in exchange for midfield maestro Paul Pogba.

While this may be no more than gossip at this point, any such move would be a real coup in world football today.
