The World Cup is, at its essence, a career’s worth of brilliant football packed into a month or less.

This leads to players being placed wide open for the scrutiny of both the world that watches on eagerly and the top clubs that are keen on taking stock of those individuals that could prove to be their next big signing.

Several heroes have emerged through this, and the careers of many more individuals have been set in stone as a result. Now, Manchester United may be the club that will purchase one such World Cup performer in the days to come.

According to a report by TMW (via Sports Witness), United are preparing a bid for 22-year-old Mexican forward Hirving Lozano.

The player, who scored the dream winning goal against Germany in the group stages, plays for PSV. The report states that the Red Devils have been impressed by his antics, and will look to acquire him for €40 million. This isn’t the first time that Manchester United have been linked to the Mexican.

Things may not go all too smoothly either, however, as Lozano signed for PSV just last summer, and went on to score 17 goals in 29 appearances, ensuring the Dutch side lifted the league title.

As he is bound to them by contract till 2023, it seems unlikely that they will be willing to let go of him, and if they are, it will be a miracle indeed if Jose Mourinho is able to see a bargain move through.

It has been reported that the Mancunian giants are considering this transfer solely due to the uncertainty that surrounds the future of Anthony Martial at the moment.

If the Frenchman does leave Old Trafford this summer, as is being widely reported, it will be interesting to see exactly how signing yet another youngster will aid United’s woes in terms of team selection.
