Manchester United fans may still be sore about the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo elected to go to Juventus instead and that Old Trafford may not prove to be the magical spot of a much-awaited reunion after all.

This will hit especially hard in view of the fact that their other transfer prospects seem to have either hit a dead end or are yet to start.

With the World Cup set to culminate this weekend, supporters of the English giants will be hoping that Jose Mourinho has something else up his sleeve.

While the reunion of Ronaldo was not to be, United may still facilitate another reunion, this time through a departure.

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Daley Blind will have completed his return to Ajax within two days. The Dutch midfielder has been in the news about a possible exit for quite a while now, before Mourinho quelled the initial rumors by stating that the 28-year-old is in his plans after all, but if an exit is requested, the club wouldn’t stand in the player’s way.

This report, however, believes the move to be on the verge of completion, and adds that the two clubs are currently finalizing the details of the transfer.

Blind arrived at Old Trafford during the reign of Louis van Gaal, with the transfer from Ajax then costing the club €17.5 million.

In the 141 appearances he made for the Red Devils, Blind ensured that an FA Cup, a League Cup, and a Europa League title was under his belt, although the recent season saw him sidelined quite often. This is understood to be the reason behind his desire for an exit.

Some fans will still be perplexed why his roles as a defensive midfielder weren’t being employed by Mourinho, particularly considering how he initially used to function not all too different from how Nemanja Matic does now.
