Manchester United will be aiming at finishing off their transfer business in time for the start of the new Premier League season in August, but face having to spend more money than expected to close out their targeted deals.

Long-term target and Jose Mourinho favourite Ivan Perisic is one that falls in this category, and FC Inter News are now reporting that the Red Devils may have to cough up €80 million in order to get their man.

The amount is in keeping with the stellar World Cup campaign the Croatian enjoyed with his national team, scoring in the semi-finals and again in the finals, albeit in defeat.

Manchester United have kept an eye on Perisic since 2015, back when they first showed interest in signing the winger, but the monetary aspects of the deal could not be worked out, and inevitably, led to a stand-off.

However, the amount demanded back then has since increased, and the 29-year-old has seen renewed interest from the English giants as well as other European sides.

It seems almost necessary for United to acquire his services, however, with disgruntled French winger Anthony Martial out of favour with his manager, and looking to pursue greener pastures.

As per reports, a United bid for Gareth Bale has also come to nothing, as the Welshman has apparently been assured by new Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui of a position in Los Blancos’ ranks.

It is perhaps this little bit of desperation among the United powers-that-be which is making Inter Milan demand the fee that they have for their Croatian dynamo, and it is clear with the Nerazzurri are sticking firm on their asking price for the winger.

As for Perisic himself, he continues to recuperate after a taxing World Cup journey that meant so much to the people of his country and gave the tournament a taste of true Croatian flair.
