Premier League giants Manchester United will be hoping that their summer acquisition Fred proves to be a superb midfielder in coming time.

The promise and talent of the Brazilian meant that the Mancunian giants shelled out a whopping £52m for the former Shakhtar Donetsk player.

The 25-year-old, who was of interest to rivals Manchester City, is a highly-rated box-to-box midfielder, and was a part of Tite’s 23-man squad in the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The player is expected to complement the likes of Paul Pogba and give him more freedom to wander higher up the pitch.

With many fans wondering what sort of a player he is, current Shakhtar coach Paulo Fonseca has revealed the same. According to a report in Sports Witness, the coach stated that the Brazilian is a unique player, and will be the best in his position in a short time.

“Fred will be, in short term, one of the best in the world in his position. He’s a unique player,” said Fonseca.

The Brazil international was brought in to replace Michael Carrick, who retired from the game and joined Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff. United now have a versatile looking midfield that promises more steel since Fred’s capture.

Fred is expected to be part of a three-man midfield in the upcoming season, and play alongside Nemanja Matic and Pogba. Besides the trio, United also have Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, and Scott McTominay to add depth in the department.

The new summer signing is expected to join the club for their pre-season tour in the USA later this week.
