Manchester United are currently focusing on two deals, as the summer window edges to a close.
With the World Cup having reached its conclusion recently, coupled with the Premier League transfer window all set to shut down on August 9, Manchester United are one of the several clubs that have been left frustrated this summer.
While the Red Devils have signed Fred and Diogo Dalot by activating their respective release clauses, and brought in veteran keeper Lee Grant as well, they remain in pursuit of a few more targets to improve the overall quality of their squad.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose Mourinho has asked the club to focus on two more deals, as the boss wishes to recruit two more high-profile names before the transfer market closes in two weeks.
The first of the two positions Mourinho intends to strengthen is the right wing area. United are reportedly trying to negotiate a deal for Chelsea star Willian, although they face stiff competition for the Brazilian’s services from Spanish giants Barcelona.
Gareth Bale is yet another option for the Reds, although the Welshman might just end up staying put at Real Madrid following the arrival of new boss Julen Lopetegui as well as the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Along with a winger, Mourinho also wishes to sign a centre-back. The Mancunians were previously in talks with Spurs for the services of Toby Alderweireld, but the London club’s high valuation led to a standstill in the negotiations.
The Belgian international’s successful World Cup campaign has only increased his price tag, making it likelier for United to pursue other options.
Leicester City’s Harry Maguire has lately been dubbed as a new target for the 20-time English Champions, whereas Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng remains linked with a return to Manchester, albeit the red side.
M.E.N. further add that Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos has also been offered to Manchester United, with the player’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, getting in touch with Mourinho to gauge the Portuguese tactician’s interest in the player.
Lastly, if United have enough funds left after signing the apt players in the two aforementioned positions, Mourinho is expected to make a last-ditch attempt to bring in a left-back. And if not, Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah would be used to provide cover in the full-back areas.
