Shaw Reveals The Surprise Text He Received From Mourinho
Luke Shaw hasn’t exactly seen his Manchester United career blossom into anything of note since he joined the club from Southampton a few years ago.
The young full-back was once considered the heir apparent to the likes of Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines for England, but injuries and inconsistency have seen the defender lose his place to players such as Danny Rose, Ashley Young, and Ryan Bertrand.
Not just at the International level, but at club level too, Shaw has struggled. Several media reports in the past have called the youngster ‘fat’ and even Jose Mourinho has admitted that the 23-year-old has disciplinary issues and doesn’t train hard enough.
Despite this, Shaw has shown glimpses of his ability in recent seasons, and has had fans urging him to clean up his act and make a breakthrough among the United ranks.

That breakthrough may well have arrived this summer for Shaw, amid reports of a possible release from his employers due to the arrival of Diogo Dalot from Porto and the resurrection of Ashley Young into a very able left-back.

In a recent interview, Shaw has revealed that Mourinho sent him an unexpected text of support that gave him confidence in the preparation for the new season.
“I spoke to him and it was really positive. It made me feel confident about the upcoming season, and that’s why I’m working harder than ever because I want to prove to him that I can be here,” Shaw revealed.

“That was one of the texts he sent me in the off-season. I know what you can do — you can be the best but you’ve just got to work on a couple of things.”
If the text message is anything to go by, Shaw may well have a future at Manchester United, but faces tough competition as well, with the club linked with several other defenders in this summer transfer window.
