Mourinho Rejected Woodward’s Offer To Target These Three Superstars
Manchester United‘s Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward offered to make moves for Kylian Mbappe, Gareth Bale, and Neymar this summer, but Jose Mourinho supposedly rejected them all.
The Red Devils have signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant so far, but these signings haven’t been an upgrade to their existing options. Transfer business seems to have stalled, as clubs have been hard to negotiate with for the Reds over the past month.
According to Independent, Ed Woodward was ready to pursue some of the biggest names in world football this summer. In fact, Gareth Bale, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar are the players Manchester United would have been chasing, had it not been for for Jose Mourinho.
The United gaffer didn’t wish to make moves for any of those big names, however, as he had a clear vision of how his team must look like. The report added that Mourinho instead wants to sign Willian, a winger with high workrate, and build a formidable defense this summer.

The source stated: “There were more than a few meetings where executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward would offer to pursue a big name – with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Gareth Bale among those mentioned – only for Jose Mourinho to turn him down, because he had such a clear vision for how his team should be
“Key to that vision are hard-working wingers like Willian over more flamboyant wide attackers like Anthony Martial, but really central to it are granite-hard and experienced central defenders.”

Signing Mbappe and Neymar could been labeled as over-ambitious, but the Mancunian giants could very well have succeeded in bringing Gareth Bale to Old Trafford had they given it their best shot.
The Welshman had expressed his desire to leave Real Madrid at the end of last season, until the departures of Zidane and Ronaldo have him a new hope and desire to give his career with Los Blancos another shot.
With less than a fortnight of the window left, Mourinho is still looking to add a winger and a defender to his squad. Ivan Perisic seems to be his top target for the wings, whereas one of Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire could be brought in to strengthen the defence.
