Fred’s performance against Real Madrid could justify why Jose Mourinho spent £52 million on him, according to Manchester United fans.

The Mancunians have had a pretty rough time this summer. They started the window with three signings, as Diogo Dalot first came in to provide back-up for the ageing Antonio Valencia.

Brazilian midfielder Fred was brought in to strengthen the midfield, as Michael Carrick announced his retirement at the end of last season. Lee Grant signed a one-year contract to allow Joel Pereira to go out on loan this summer.

But none of these signings seemed like a real upgrade, and the Portuguese boss as well as the club’s supporters have been frustrated with the lack of world-class players recruited this summer.

Manchester United were in action on Tuesday, as they played Real Madrid in their last game of the US Tour. The Red Devils were yet to win a game in normal time during the ongoing pre-season, which they finally achieved against Los Blancos. Furthermore, over the course of the game, one player caught the eyes of everyone.

Fred seemed pretty composed on the ball, considering he had to sit out at the World Cup in Russia due to a knock. The midfielder was the focal point in many of United’s attacks, and was excellent in the deeper role.
