The summer transfer window is set to shut down this Thursday, and Manchester United are looking to get a deal for a defender done as quickly as possible.

So far, various media reports are doing the rounds, with a host of names being linked with the Old Trafford outfit. The ongoing talks suggest that there is a wave of positivity surrounding the same.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is said to be on the verge of a move, and so is Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, with negotiations believed to be on.

And now, as per a report in German outlet BILD, the Red Devils have also opened negotiations with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Jerome Boateng.

Journalist Christian Falk revealed via his official Twitter account that the Premier League club has initiated talks to sign the player. This update came out while the two clubs were involved in a friendly at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be intent on strengthening his side at the back, and knows that he will have to cough out a massive sum to get a noted name.

Boateng, who is considering his future at Bayern, was also being monitored by French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The centre-back has spent seven seasons at Bayern, and has made over 250 appearances for the club, besides winning six Bundesliga titles on top of three German Cups and a Champions League trophy.

The Germany international has been a commanding figure at the Bavarian club, and will add a lot of steel at the back for United if the move goes through.
