Manchester United central defender Eric Bailly has gone on to impress many fans after a scintillating performance against Bayern Munich in the pre-season friendly at the Allianz Arena.

United lost the match 0-1, with Javi Martinez scoring the lone goal. But the positive factor to have come out was Bailly’s show at the back for the Mancunian club.

The Ivory Coast international battled an injury-prone season last term, but is considered to be the side’s best bet in defence. Fans want the African to partner Victor Lindelof in the centre of defence for quite some time.

United also have Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in the setup, and are also being linked with a move for Toby Alderweireld.

The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back is expected to arrive at Old Trafford ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline. And although the Belgium international is seen as a short-term plan, Bailly is definitely the future.

Against Bayern, Bailly looked composed with the ball and made some intelligent decisions.

He hardly did anything wrong, and showed the manager that he deserves a starting berth in their Premier League opener against Leicester City come Friday.

The 24-year-old easily saw off Gnabry inside the box with his sheer physical prowess after the attacking midfielder was vying for the ball.

His casual chip to get a perfect pass to the feet of Matteo Darmian and prevent the ball from going out for a corner was another highlight of his strengths.

The former Villarreal man has so far made 56 appearances for Manchester United over the past two seasons.
