Manchester United have a day left to sort out a chaotic and frustrating transfer window. The summer window shuts on Thursday in England, and the Mancunian club’s pursuit for a top class defender hangs in the balance.

The window started with speculation surrounding Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld. But the asking price, and Spurs’ reluctance meant that United had to look elsewhere.

In came a host of names. Leicester City’s Harry Maguire became a chief target, but the Foxes weren’t keen to let their star defender move. Besides, even if they do agree, a hefty £75m price tag has been set on the player.

Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng was another name, but it is understood that United are looking for a loan deal. Other reports claim that the German has disagreed on a potential move to Manchester.

With these uncertainties, United have kept their options open, and a loan move for promising Kurt Zouma is being listed. According to a report in L’Equipe, United are keen to battle Everton for Zouma’s signature.

But Chelsea, on the other hand, seem reluctant to let a player join a direct rival. Zouma is deemed surplus to requirements at the Bridge, and spent last season on loan at Stoke City.

The report also adds that United want the young centre-back in a permanent deal, whereas Everton are seeking a loan deal.

The move for Zouma is now on for the Mancunian club, after they were left frustrated in their attempts to buy a world class centre-back this summer.

United will be hoping to convince Chelsea to sell Zouma on deadline day. The Blues, in the past, have allowed the likes of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic to join the Old Trafford outfit.
