Player Ratings: Brighton 3-2 Manchester United
Manchester United played haplessly away against Brighton, as they suffered a stunning 3-2 defeat. The Red Devils were blown away in the first half itself, and never quite managed to threaten after half-time in order to stage a comeback.
The loss sees them three points adrift of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Glen Murray gave Brighton the lead, and moments later, Shane Duffy slotted home the second. Romelu Lukaku got a goal back, before Pascal Gross scored a penalty. Paul Pogba pulled one back late on by scoring an injury-time penalty.
Here are the players ratings for United:
David de Gea – 5
Couldn’t have done much for all three goals United conceded. Was a spectator in the 2nd half.

Ashley Young – 5
Looked out of form and short of match practice. Didn’t offer much defensively.
Victor Lindelof – 3
Had a disappointing first half. Was responsible for United’s opening goal and never closed down Murray.
Eric Bailly – 3
Was out of sorts, and was responsible for giving away the penalty which was unnecessary.
Luke Shaw – 6
The left-back continued from where he left off. Made an assist for Lukaku and gave it his all.

Andreas Pereira – 4
Not the influence he would have hoped to have. Was a passenger throughout and didn’t offer a cushion.
Fred – 2
Arguably the worst player on the pitch. Was culpable for the 3rd goal and lost possession consistently.
Pogba – 4
Inconsistency greeted the Frenchman once again, and he was ineffectual throughout. Scored a penalty in injury-time.
Romelu Lukaku – 5
Was alert to score a goal and give United hope. Didn’t do much post that.
Juan Mata – 2
The Spaniard didn’t impact the game from any angle. Looked clueless at times.
Anthony Martial – 3
A quiet and frustrated performance by the Frenchman as the match progressed.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Jesse Lingard – 4
Replaced Mata at half-time and was lively, but did not create much.
Marcus Rashford – 4
Looked promising, but did not influence the game much.
Marouane Fellaini – 4
Did not get much service to change the game’s complexion, and impact wise, he offered nothing.
