With Manchester United failing to sign a recognized centre-back in the summer, Jose Mourinho’s decision to let some of his players go might have come across as a surprise to many.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s move was probably the biggest among the lot. The 24-year-old spent last year playing for Crystal Palace on loan, and this year sees him doing the same for Fulham.
The versatile defender started his second game in a row for the newly promoted side, as they went on to beat Burnley 4-2 in a thriller on Sunday night.
The Cottagers picked up their first points of their new top flight campaign, and the youngster’s performance left one and all impressed.
Fans of Manchester United were glad to see their boy wonder do so well, as he not only played with freedom, but was influential in both the attacking and defensive side of things. Starting the game as a right-back, he dominated proceedings majorly.
Not only was he hungry for the ball when not in possession, but also clinical with it, having recorded an 82% passing accuracy rate.
Fulham fans were also on Twitter to show their appreciation for their summer signing, with one of them tweeting: “Wasn’t expecting much from Fosu-Mensah going forward but showed some serious speed. Early signs from nearly all of our new players is that they are adapting very well.”
Another supporter added: “Just want to thank Manchester United for giving us Timothy Fosu Mensah. Guy is an absolute baller.”
Encouraging start for Timothy Fosu-Mensah at Fulham. Two starts out of three and they’ve played stylishly so far. He wanted a loan but a pity it still came about when Darmian – who doesn’t want to be at #mufc – was kept.

While Mourinho is being thanked for giving Fosu-Mensah to Fulham, the Red Devils must remember that he is one of the brightest prospects to come out of their academy in recent years, and not bringing him back to Manchester soon enough could cost them dearly.
