Geert de Vlieger believes Romelu Lukaku has surpassed the levels set by Didier Drogba in the Premier League.

Lukaku has improved immensely over the past couple of seasons. His performances at the World Cup over the summer helped Belgium beat several teams, including the mighty Brazil in the quarter-finals.

The Manchester United player is not a traditional striker who expects to receive the ball before making any movement. Jose Mourinho’s defensive approach has taught Lukaku to dig deep at occasions.

The Belgian has also shown the willingness to press the opposition defense and make tackles whenever needed. Last week, he scored a brace against Burnley, which saw him go past Didier Drogba’s 104 Premier League goals record.

Former Belgian goalkeeper Geert de Vlieger is a huge fan of the Manchester United striker. In an interview with Sports Late Night, the Belgian analyst even went on to claim that Lukaku has already surpassed Didier Drogba, having beaten his record at such a young age.

“I think Lukaku is already better than Drogba. He is so young and can accomplish so much,” said de Vlieger.

But Chelsea fans aren’t convinced with his overall team contribution. Drogba played a crucial role in helping the Londoners win the Premier League and FA Cup four times, also also beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League in 2012.

Meanwhile, Lukaku is yet to win a major trophy in his career. In a previous interview, he had even revealed that Didier Drogba is one of his inspirations in football.

The 25-year-old will be hoping to establish himself as a Premier League legend, just like his idol, by winning trophies with Manchester United in the coming years.
