How Martial Reacted After Missing A Late Goalscoring Opportunity Against Everton

Manchester United were able to post an impressive 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday.

An opening penalty miss from Paul Pogba was rapidly converted into their first goal from a rebound by the Frenchman, while his compatriot, Anthony Martial, stunned Old Trafford with a spectacular curler to net the side’s winner.

The impact of the goal was brought into some question when Everton were able to get a goal back from a penalty of their own in the 77th minute, which was followed by rapid attacking in the 6 minutes of added time, but United held their cool and victory was theirs.

Towards the end of the game, Martial was provided with another brilliant opportunity to score, as he got into a simple one-on-one situation with Jordan Pickford, but was simply unable to find the net a second time.

His reaction to the miss was one of deep distress, and even after the full-time whistle, the youngster was seen on the pitch, with even Pogba being unable to console him about the miss, as Martial kept pointing to the point of his mistake.

However, this gesture has sat well amongst supporters of the Red Devils, who took to Twitter to express their support for the former Monaco star.

Largely positive support awaited Martial, and fans were certainly impressed by his tally of 4 goals in 3 games, often single-handedly carrying United’s offense forward, particularly considering Romelu Lukaku’s dreadful goal drought.

It is clear that Martial still fears repercussions and the woes of being benched, which is why the thought of a second goal, akin to his brace at Stamford Bridge last week, may have caused such a passionate reaction even in the face of a win.

This is certainly an indication of just what level of brilliance Jose Mourinho expects of him, and hopefully, his efforts will be rewarded well.
