Manchester United suffered a humbling 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in Sunday’s Manchester Derby, which brought to an end their recent run of victories.

The Red Devils did perform well at the Etihad, but eventually, were simply outclassed by the superior football played by Pep Guardiola’s men.

Jose Mourinho’s squad was also hampered with big injuries, as Paul Pogba missed the game entirely due to the knock he picked up against Juventus, whereas Romelu Lukaku wasn’t fit enough to start, and had to be introduced as a second-half substitute.

The Portuguese tactician was quite supportive of his team despite being on the losing side, as he admitted that he was ‘sad, but not too disappointed’ in his post-match press conference.

“It was not an easy week for us but I just told the players they’re playing much better than before; we are much stronger, we are much more compact,” Jose stated.

“Now we have to not let the defeat disappoint us. Sad, yes, but not too disappointed. In two weeks’ time we play at home against Crystal Palace and, from that game, we have to try to get the points.”

However, Mourinho also made some surprising comments regarding Marouane Fellaini, who had to start the game despite not being fully fit due to the injury picked up by Paul Pogba.

“He [Fellaini] was not ready to play for 90 minutes,” Mourinho revealed (via The Independent), before going on to add: “I can imagine when it was 2-1 to bring a fresh Fellaini, I think they would be in big, big trouble.”

This statement from the Manchester United boss wasn’t received well by both sets of supporters, and here’s how the fans reacted on Twitter:
