The shackles were well and truly off in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first game in-charge of Manchester United, as his side thumped Cardiff City 5-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.
Here’s how the Red Devils fared during the Premier League encounter:
DAVID DE GEA: 6
Couldn’t have done much to save Camarasa’s emphatic penalty. Had little else to do throughout the game.
LUKE SHAW: 6
Dominated the left flank. Contributed well in defence as well as attack.
PHIL JONES: 6
Held the fort in central defence. Wasn’t tested much.
VICTOR LINDELOF: 7
Did his defensive duty, and almost bagged a superb assist after a scintillating run across the park.
ASHLEY YOUNG: 7
Was on par with Marcus Rashford at the top of the pitch at times. His set-piece deliveries were threatening.
NEMANJA MATIC: 6.5
Provided good cover from his defensive midfield position. A far better display compared to his recent performances.
ANDER HERRERA: 7
Was active in the middle of the park, and scored an impressive long-range goal, which did receive a slight deflection.
PAUL POGBA: 8.5
Pulled the strings from midfield, assisting the goals for Herrera and Lingard, whilst also playing a huge role in Martial’s. Well and truly rejuvenated.
ANTHONY MARTIAL: 8
Scored a sensational goal by combining well with Pogba and Lingard. Was an attacking threat throughout the match.
JESSE LINGARD: 9
What position did he even play in? The Englishman was all over the pitch, causing the Cardiff defence all sorts of problems. Capped his performance off with an impressive brace. Man of the match.
MARCUS RASHFORD: 8
Opened the scoring through a venomous free-kick. Had several more chances to score, but failed to convert. Concded the penalty as well, but an impressive showing nonetheless.
Played some impressive passes after coming on for Rashford.
MAROUANE FELLAINI: NA
Replaced Matic too late to make any notable impact.
ANDREAS PEREIRA: NA
Replaced Martial too late to make any notable impact.
