What a difference a week makes! Jose Mourinho may have been hoping for some hope after Manchester United’s loss to Liverpool, but it took as far as Tuesday of the previous week for the Portuguese gaffer to be given the sack by the Mancunian giants.
This was certainly an affair that was quite a while in the making, despite it seeming sudden in nature. After the manner in which United posted a convincing 5-1 win over Cardiff City under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s brief spell at the top, it is easy to imagine just how bad things may have been under Mourinho.
Now, an inside source has revealed, a fascinating insight into what occurred moments after Mourinho was sacked.
As per The Sun, United didn’t hurry at ensuring Mourinho was forgotten, minutes after him being informed of his sacking at Carrington.
The source states: “The club were ruthless in the end. Just minutes after being sacked they were in there. It took just 15 minutes to consign Jose to history. They dumped all his stuff into a white transit van. He spoke briefly to some of the support staff but spent most of his time in office on the day.”
Mourinho ’s reign was one to forget. Despite the silverware of a Europa League and the League Cup, alongside a second-placed Premier League finish last season, things were going sour under the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss.
Their football was often lethargic and uninspiring, with even Mourinho’s personal defensive brand taking a hit through the side’s woes.
To add insult to injury, the other top teams in English football were fielding some of the finest moments of play in the game’s history, all while the side displayed poor and sordid performances.
Now, it will be interesting to see what lies next for Mourinho, with his resume still meriting a top European club.
