How Solskjaer Reacted When Anthony Martial Missed Training On Christmas Day

Anthony Martial has reportedly been reprimanded by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Frenchman was a no-show during Manchester United‘s 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford, supposedly due to a stomach bug.

Solskjaer had explained his absence by stating: “He must have had a bad chef over Christmas. If it’s food poisoning or something. I don’t know, but he’s fallen ill over Christmas.”

But now, the Daily Mail has revealed that the illness cited by the interim manager wasn’t the real reason behind Martial not being a part of the Reds’ previous matchday squad.

The report claims that Martial had actually returned to France to spend the Christmas Eve with his partner Melanie Da Cruz and their baby boy.

However, he ended up missing his return flight, thereby failing to show up for Manchester United‘s training session, which was scheduled at 6PM on Christmas Day.

This delay left Solskjaer thoroughly unimpressed, and the Norwegian made his feelings known by severely lashing out at Martial upon his return.

This wasn’t the first time something of this sort has happened involving the 22-year-old. A similar instance had occurred during the 2018 US Tour, wherein Martial took an extended leave and missed most of the pre-season due to the birth of his child.

In spite of these issues, the forward has been included in Manchester United‘s match-day squad for their upcoming encounter against Bournemouth. However, it remains to be seen whether this off-the-pitch discrepancy affects his performance on it.
