Juventus Reach Agreement With Man United For Transfer Of 29-Year-Old Star

Manchester United’s transfer window has been largely uneventful so far, save for the predictable loan spells of some youth players. It is obvious that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must bring in a defensive player if the Red Devils want to truly cement their hopes of a top-four finish this season.

However, at the same time, the club must also focus on the talents whose contracts are on the verge of expiring, and provide particular significance to those who are clearly surplus to requirement at the present moment.

Matteo Darmian is a player that perfectly fits this bill, and has been the subject of an exit since summer itself. Back then, the requirements of Jose Mourinho kept the Italian at the club, despite strong interest from top names in the Serie A. However, recent reports claim that this saga is reignited.

According to recent claims, Manchester United have agreed to a loan deal for Darmian with Juventus.

As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the nature of the deal is such that the Italian giants will receive the defender until the end of this season, and will then be provided with the opportunity of deciding what to do with a €4 million permanent purchase clause intact.

Further, the source claims that United will first have to activate the one-year extension clause present in Darmian’s existing contract, following which a loan move can materialize.

But it has been stressed that these negotiations are still in the early stages, and that concrete details of the deal would emerge in the coming days.

However, contrary reports from The Guardian claim that the Old Lady outfit will pay the Mancunians a loan fee of £2.6m if the deal goes through. Further, the reigning Italian champions will have an option to buy the player for £7.1m at the end of the loan spell.

Darmian, 29, never made a full impact with the Mancunian giants, and has allegedly been considering a move from a while now.

Under Solskjaer, his contribution has arrived largely due to the lack of defensive options due to injury. If this deal is wrapped up quickly, United may be eager to land an able centre-back before the month is done.
