Manchester United are ready to make David De Gea the best paid player in Premier League history.

The club has been attempting to tie the shot-stopper down with a new long-term deal, especially with his current contract all set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season.

As per previous reports, De Gea was said to be hesitant to commit his future to the club, especially due to the Red Devils’ failure to compete for major titles in recent years.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacing Jose Mourinho at the club’s helm supposedly changed the custodian’s stance, and now, Manchester United aim to wrap the negotiations up by offering the 28-year-old a bumper deal.

According to The Sunday Times, the Mancunian giants are prepared to make De Gea an offer with a basic pay package of £90m over five years. This would see the player pocket £23m a year, which is around £365,000-per-week.

If the Spaniard accepts this deal, he will overtake his fellow teammates Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba, as well as Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, and become the highest paid player of all time in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently claimed that De Gea is not only the best goalkeeper in the world, but is also competing with the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar to become the greatest in Manchester United‘s glorious history.

Therefore, everyone associated with the club will only hope that David follows the likes of Anthony Martial, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, and Phil Jones in accepting the deal to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
