Manchester United did the unthinkable yet again by knocking PSG out of the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Red Devils had entered Paris carrying a two-goal deficit that most pundits believed to be unassailable, a mountain too steep to climb.

Romelu Lukaku’s early goal set the dynamic in United’s favor, and despite PSG equalizing shortly after, the Belgian striker achieved his third brace in as many games by scoring again in the 30th minute.

Following that goal, United tried their best to get that elusive third away goal until the 90th minute, when fortune favored them. Having won a corner at the start of added time, both clubs were prepping to alter the scoreline, when the referee blew the whistle.

VAR had caught a handball incident that the United players hadn’t contested, and the referee deemed it to be valid and awarded the penalty. Marcus Rashford then scored and sent the Red Devils to the quarter-finals.

Romelu Lukaku indulged in a hilarious act after United had scored. The Belgian striker celebrated Rashford’s penalty right in front of Angel Di Maria, whose expression was worth a million dollars.

Having left Manchester United on cold terms, Di Maria was heavily critiqued by the Old Trafford crowd during the first-leg.

When the Argentine forward played a role in both of the goals scored on that day, he celebrated with much spite and mirth, visibly taunting the home fans. His ‘beer’ celebration, in particular, was a sight that did the rounds and riled up the United crowd.

In contrast, Lukaku’s celebration is quite apt and a fitting response to the classless way in which Di Maria behaved. It is almost poetic justice, and the Argentinian forward must certainly be kicking himself for having celebrated in such a pompous manner.

With this loss, another season has gone by wherein PSG have been outclassed in the Champions League, their farmer’s league team identity being further solidified.
