Manchester United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid star Rodrigo Hernandez.

The former Villarreal starlet was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last summer, but ended up making the switch to the Spanish capital instead.

He has since been largely impressive, with his displays attracting heavy interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester City, who see the player as a long-term successor for Fernandinho.

Now, according to Marca, Manchester United have also joined the race to secure his services.

The Red Devils are looking for midfield reinforcements of their own, especially with Ander Herrera supposedly on the verge of completing a free transfer to PSG.

The report adds that the Mancunian outfit is more than willing to activate Rodrigo’s release clause, which is said to be around the region of €70 million.

The 22-year-old talent has time and again been likened to Barcelona superstar Sergio Busquets, with Catalan legend Xavi drawing the same comparison earlier this season.

“He’s a superb player, and he would be even better in a style like Barcelona’s,” Xavi had opined. “He has the Barcelona profile. I see him as top class, like Busi [Sergio Busquets]. He lifts his heads up. He’s great. I think Barca should have signed him.”
