Player Ratings: Barcelona 3-0 Manchester United

Manchester United were thoroughly battered at the Camp Nou as Barcelona emerged victorious with a 3-0 win, a Lionel Messi brace and a Philippe Coutinho beauty winning them the tie. Let us have a look at how the Red Devils fared on the night

David De Gea – 3.5

Exceptionally poor from the Spaniard who arguably gifted both of Messi’s goals to him. Made just one incredible save but in vain.

Phil Jones – 5.6

Couldn’t function as well as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have wanted him to. Not up to the standards of a United side.

Chris Smalling – 5.7

No signs of the brave Englishman who had taken on Messi at Old Trafford. Was overpowered by a creative Barca forward line.

Victor Lindelof – 5.6

The Swede wasn’t comfortable in the role he was deployed in and the errors were there for all to see.

Ashley Young – 6.1

Displayed resilience for much of the game, but his performance also highlighted precisely what his aging legs can’t achieve anymore.

Scott McTominay – 6.9

Another massively positive performance from the youngster. Could develop into a big talent in the future.

Fred – 5.6

Not as sure-footed as he has been in recent games and was more or less shoved aside by a disciplined Barca midfield who enjoyed passing the ball.

Paul Pogba – 6.4

On a couple of occasions, the Frenchman showed hints of what was required but the lack of discipline did more harm than good.

Jesse Lingard – 6.1

Solid in his passing but was unable to convert any chance nor break through a stubborn Catalan backline.

Marcus Rashford – 6.1

Not the forward presence Solskjaer would have been hoping for. Looked severely lackluster.

Anthony Martial – 5.5

Lacked in confidence and was barely given the chance to be the pacey danger-man that he usually is on the flanks.

Substitutes

Diogo Dalot – 5.8

Was inspiring in his forward-runs but gave too little too late in the game.

Alexis Sanchez – 5.7

Cheered on by his old club, Sanchez wasn’t all too different from the form-shy player that had gotten injured.

Romelu Lukaku – 5.8

Came on for a decent chunk of the game but was still unable to get a shot.
