Napoli central defender Kalidou Koulibaly is one player that has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a while now. The 27-year-old has produced some valiant displays throughout the last two seasons, and is one of the big names on the Reds’ summer wishlist.

On Thursday, Arsenal faced Napoli at Naples, and Koulibaly was in action for the hosts in the Europa League quarter-finals second leg.

The Gunners, who had won the first leg at home 2-0, kept their European form going with another 1-0 victory, which took them safely to the semi-finals.

Koulibaly struggled at the Emirates in the first leg, but was considerably better in the reverse fixture. United fans have been keeping tabs on the player, and Thursday was another opportunity to analyse his performance.

Many fans weren’t pleased with what they saw. Some feel he is better than the defenders United have in their side, but given his price tag, he isn’t worth the value.

Koulibaly had signed a contract extension at Napoli last year in September. And this week, Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti went on to confirm that it contains a €150 million release clause.

“Koulibaly’s contract will expire in 2023,” he stated. “In 2021 he will have a €150 million release clause, but Napoli do not need to sell, the president does not want to sell and the question does not arise.”

That’s a whopping sum slapped on the player. This reason has clearly turned some United fans off, and they feel that the player isn’t worth the price tag.
