Manchester United made a very late attempt to sign Virigil van Dijk.

The Dutchman, who joined Liverpool in a record breaking £75m move, is set to be named PFA Player of the Year.

Following his arrival from Southampton in January 2018, he has completely transformed Liverpool’s backline, that was once trolled for it’s calamitous defending.

Talking about ‘calamitous defending’, Manchester United have already conceded 50 goals in the league this season, and are clearly in a need of a leader like Virgil van Dijk.

According to the Times, Manchester United reportedly tried to sign the 27-year-old before he became Liverpool’s record signing.

However, the club left their approach too late and missed out on one of world’s best centre-backs.

Not a surprise considering their transfer business record under Ed Woodward in recent years.

The report claims that Liverpool had already pretty much sealed a deal with defender already completing his medical on Merseyside.
