Manchester United fans are keeping tabs on nearly every centre-back of note in Europe in the hopes that their club will sign able ones this summer. It has by far been the biggest and most obvious issue in their roster and one that has gone stubbornly unsolved for far too long.

However, amongst those who wish to remain true to the ways of Sir Alex Ferguson, a close eye is being kept on younger and cheaper talent as well.

While the likes of Rashford and Lingard have broken well into United’s starting lineup, enjoying a fruitful graduation from the academy, that hasn’t been the case as much at the back.

However, that could change and there is one prominent candidate.

Even though Old Trafford saw little of Axel Tuanzebe when he was given his senior debut, the 21-year-old has impressed tremendously while on loan.

His most recent success came via Aston Villa whom he aided to promotion to the Premier League on Sunday.

The defender, who started off as a right-back and an occasional central-defensive midfielder, has slowly been deployed more as a true centre-back. In the play-offs finals, his brilliance was on show and many United supporters reiterated their desire to see him at Old Trafford.

The expected tweets were plenty, with the starlet being compared to the rather sordid performances put in by players like Jones and Rojo in United’s present roster.

However, there was also a clear bunch of fans who hoped that the club pursued a more sensible route. These supporters, in particular, felt that Tuanzebe would benefit immensely from continuing another season while on loan at Villa.

This way he is likely to receive invaluable Premier League experience week in and week out over the course of the upcoming season. It is a course akin to what the Red Devils are allegedly willing to do for loaned goalkeeper Sheffield United. The contracts of both these players runs out in 2020.
