The Matthijs De Ligt transfer saga is all set to dominate the ongoing summer window, as a host of European juggernauts are vying for his services.

Barcelona were previously dubbed as the favourites to seal this deal, but following their refusal to improve their initial offer, other potential suitors have received a boost in this pursuit.

Manchester United remain heavily interested in the star centre-back, with the 19-year-old himself seemingly eager regarding this switch despite the absence of Champions League football at Old Trafford next season.

The Red Devils also possess a humongous financial muscle, which they will not hesitate to flex in order to sign the Ajax captain up.

Now, another reason in favour of Manchester United has emerged, through an interview given by De Ligt himself back in 2018.

The clip, recorded by Ajax’s official TV channel, shows the defender being asked about his most difficult opponent by his fellow club teammate Frenkie De Jong.

His reply? Manchester United and England sensation, Marcus Rashford. De Ligt answers: “That has to be Rashford from Manchester United. Great player, quick, with technical skills.”

The two young starlets collided during their respective international duties, when England faced off against the Netherlands in a friendly encounter back in March 2018.

With this video going viral on social media, many supporters associated with the Mancunian outfit are optimistically hoping that their number 10 could play some part in convincing the in-demand Dutchman to join him at the Theatre of Dreams.
