Matthijs De Ligt will inform Manchester United of his decision in the coming days.

Despite the fact that sources close to the Red Devils have informed the club that De Ligt has already agreed a move to Barcelona, United remain hopeful of pulling off this deal.

Previous reports have already indicated that the Netherlands international is open to a move to Manchester, despite the absence of Champions League football at Old Trafford next season.

As per the Telegraph, people close to the 19-year-old also believe joining Manchester United over Barcelona would be better for De Ligt, and a spell in English football would help him achieve his dream of becoming the best defender on the planet.

Moreover, playing in a pacey and physical style of football in the Premier League week in week out would give the Dutchman tremendous amount of experience for a future potential switch, whilst also moulding him into a complete centre-back.

The Catalans wish to sign De Ligt as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique. However, the teenager himself is aware of how beneficial a short spell at Manchester United was for the Spanish defender, and he could follow a similar route as the 32-year-old.

The report adds that the Mancunians are undergoing a rebuilding phase under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which appeals to De Ligt in the same way as being a part of Ajax’s rejuvenation process did two years ago.

Further, the Norwegian gaffer is sure to build his backline around De Ligt, whereas at the Camp Nou outfit, regular first-team action will be far from guaranteed.

All these factors have given Manchester United a decent window of opportunity to make their sales pitch, and a response is expected to arrive in the coming days. Will it be a positive one?
