Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a new contract.

Since arriving at the Old Trafford outfit from Chelsea back in January 2014, Mata has made 218 appearances in the famous red shirt, scoring 45 goals in the process.

His current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire this month, and it has seen him get linked with prospective free transfers to multiple clubs.

A potential return to his homeland has been on the cards, with the likes of Barcelona and Valencia said to be interested in his services.

But now, Manchester United have confirmed that they have offered their fan-favourite Spaniard a new contract.

In an update on their official website, the Mancunian giants named the first-team players that have been released this summer, whilst also shedding light on Mata’s future.

The club statement read: “In terms of the first team, it has already been confirmed that Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia are leaving United after distinguished service in the red shirt. Juan Mata, meanwhile, has been offered a new contract.”

It remains to be seen whether the 31-year-old playmaker agrees terms, and effectively puts pen to paper to finalise this new deal.
