Manchester United seem to be in the mood to finalize some of their bigger summer pursuits.
Even though the transfer window started off on what is being reported as a frustrated note, with the Red Devils missing out on big pursuits due to lack of Champions League football for next season, there appears to be renewed vigor to their approaches in the last week or so.
After securing Daniel James from Swansea City for their wing, United now have their eye set on revamping their backline.
Chief amongst their targets for the full-back’s spot is Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
According to the Sun, the 21-year-old England international wishes to move to Old Trafford. Even though he has not handed in an official transfer request, Crystal Palace are aware that the starlet wishes to complete a ‘dream’ move to United this summer.
It is being widely reported that the Eagles rejected United’s initial £35 million bid for the full-back. The club could hold out for a sum in the region of £60 million or so. However, the dilly-dallying over the deal has reportedly left the youngster frustrated.
United are eager to acquire him, with long-time straggler Matteo Darmian on the verge of being offloaded to make way for Wan-Bissaka.
Roy Hodgson’s side are also allegedly planning for life without their impressive right-back, and have apparently identified Norwich City’s Max Aarons as a potential replacement.
The Red Devils are facing similar conundrums with regard to their centre-back pursuits. Matthijs de Ligt seems certain to join Barcelona and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company are looking at the likes of Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly as well.
The right-back’s spot at Old Trafford was unsatisfactorily manned by Ashley Young for much of last season with new signing Diogo Dalot proving to be too inexperienced and defensively inept for the position.
