Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hunt for promising British talent has been quite evident in recent days. Both Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka perfectly fit this category and while the fee for the Welshman is certainly more realistic, their intent is strong regardless.
The club still has to make a few more signings. Most reports claim that at least two more midfield players will be purchased this summer, while the futures of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku may necessitate the acquisition of their replacements too.
Most importantly, the side is still without a world-class centre-back.
Now, they are linked with another midfield talent.
As per the Sun, United are looking to purchase Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn and have made inquiries into his style and abilities ahead of a possible bid.
At 24 years of age, McGinn carries a lot of potential and is a fan favorite at Villa. He was instrumental in the side gaining promotion to the Premier League, including scoring in the play-offs final.
However, the report claims that Villa will demand a transfer fee upwards of £50 million for the Scot. If true, this is a tremendous mark-up from the paltry £2.75 million paid to acquire him from Hibs last year.
It is believed that the newly promoted side is eager to tie him down to a long-term deal and the interest from United can certainly be a tempting offer.
McGinn is described as an all-round dynamic player with a particular penchant for dribbling and playing long balls. While primarily a central midfielder, he has been deployed defensively as well.
United haven’t shied from making lesser-known names the focus of their haul with Daniel James also coming in as a Championship talent. Sean Longstaff has also been linked to arrival as is Bruno Fernandes. Which of these midfielders will sport the United jersey in August?
