Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League has succeeded in stealing hearts like few other games have over the years.

Old Trafford went bonkers over their side’s victory and the supporters of the club stormed social media to heap praises on the lads.

While it was the goal-scorers and debutants that stole the show, there were a few faces that may have not received the full credit of their performance.

A former United player certainly identified the same for one player, in particular.

‘Manchester United Will Probably Win The League Before Liverpool’

Phil Neville, while speaking to Sky Sports, singled out the contributions of Scott McTominay during the fixture. Neville stated: “He’s an impressive young man. There are probably more skilful players, players with better reputations than McTominay, but if you’re talking about character and resilience, that lad’s gone through it all to get to where he wants to be.”

Playing in the midfield is almost a sure ticket to anonymity, especially when ones contribution may not always be attacking in nature. A few fans also spotted the brilliance of the youngster and some even commented that a future leader is hidden within the academy graduate.

Neville adds: “That’s through sheer hard work, dedication and training and doing extra. It’s no coincidence Jose Mourinho picked him in the biggest games against Chelsea and PSG, and Ole’s doing the same now. There’s nothing better than a level-headed young lad absolutely working his socks off. The fundamental basis of any successful person is hard work, and Scott McTominay is doing that in abundance.”

The club was heavily critiqued for their failure at acquiring an apt midfielder during the transfer window. The disappointment of the Bruno Fernandes saga, in particular, adds to this gloom.

However, if McTominay continues to deliver like this, a strong case will be made for youngster across the roster.
