Manchester United were dismal yet again as the side were unable to sneak a victory past Southampton on Saturday. The away fixture saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men only manage a 1-1 draw.

Things did look positive for the traveling squad when Daniel James opened the scoring with a splendid goal, his third in four games. The Welsh winger alongside his frontline did pressure the Saints thereon, but the forward runs and attacking intent lost their tooth after the first-half.

This spelled doom for Solskjaer’s hope for three points as the home-side intervened with clear attacking intent, despite leaving their defense open at times, a feat that the Red Devils didn’t take advantage of.

Southampton’s risk was rewarded near the hour mark when Vestergaard succeeded in heading the ball beyond David De Gea and equalizing the scoreline.

After the game, lots of criticism began to surface, largely questioning Solskjaer’s tactics and the kind of ethos prevalent in his squad.

One commenter on Nemanja Matic’s Instagram, in particular, appeared to be severely peeved with the Norwegian gaffer. The individual urged the Serb to leave the club and labeled the former Molde and Cardiff City gaffer to be ‘myopic’ and ignorant of the fact that the former Chelsea midfielder ought to start the game.

A typical comment critical of the gaffer, amongst many others.

However, what made these words stand out is that Matic himself liked the comment. This is certainly a massive move and in the past, such instances have seen player-manager rapport suffer immensely.

There are many who feel that Matic is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and that he is a Mourinho-era signing that must leave.

With the brilliance that Scott McTominay has been showing in his spot, this does have some merit.

Could this move from Matic’s part result in an expulsion prior to the September 2 transfer deadline?
