Player Ratings: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United

The first Manchester derby of the season may have already shelved Manchester City’s title hopes as Manchester United put up an absolutely world-class performance at the Etihad to win it 2-1.

It was all early first-half action for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men as Marcus Rashford converted a penalty brilliantly followed by which Anthony Martial netted a spectacular goal. Substitute Nicholas Otamendi provided some consolation for the home side who simply could not beat the United backline in search of a point.

David De Gea – 6.9

The Spaniard was bombarded with attempts for the entirety of the game and showed great composure save for Otamendi’s goal which was brutally headed in.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.2

Absolute unit for Solskjaer’s side as he tackled and defended his way throughout the second-half, frustrating the City attack who were desperate to build from wide.

Victor Lindelof – 7.0

Impressive from the Swede whose second-half block may have made all the difference in the end.

Harry Maguire – 7.5

Best defender on the pitch and a true leader for United. Will be gutted at being robbed of yet another cleansheet.

Scott McTominay – 7.3

Another outstanding performance from the youngster who was steadfast in his midfield duty.

Fred – 7.3

Back-to-back world-class showings from the Brazilian who was composed for much of the game.

Daniel James – 7.5

Created Martial’s goal and frustrated City with his electric pace. Simply brilliant.

Jesse Lingard – 6.8

Yet again the weak link in the attack and could have converted up to three more goals. Paul Pogba needs to desperately replace him here.

Marcus Rashford – 8.5

Another man of the match performance from the English forward who is in brilliant form and is set for career-best numbers this campaign.

Anthony Martial – 7.6

Well-found goal from Martial who was an injury doubt ahead of the fixture and didn’t seem too pleased with being taken off.

Got a yellow card within seconds of coming on and disrupted the discipline quite a bit.

Axel Tuanzebe and Ashley Young – Brought on too late to make a significant impact.
