What Luke Shaw Tweeted After Lukaku’s Champions League Exit
Romelu Lukaku may have thought he escaped mediocrity when he left Manchester United for Inter Milan in the summer.
But his dreams of playing in the Champions League come to a quick end as his side crashed out of the competition following a defeat to Barcelona last night.
With 12 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions this season, the forward has certainly found his rhythm at his new club, which sadly wasn’t enough to keep them in the Champions League.
The Belgian scored the equalising goal against the Catalonians right before the climax of the first-half, but a late goal by Ansu Fati ensured the Nerazzurri were sent down to the Europa League, denying them a second placed finish.
However, rather than the humbling defeat the Milan outfit suffered, it was Lukaku being under some humourous fire that caught the attention of most neutral fans.
The striker had posted an image of himself ahead of a Champions League match back in October with a sly caption that went “UCL” preceded by an emoji with a broad smile, almost as a jab at his former side who managed only an Europa League qualification.

Nevertheless, the former Everton striker now finds himself back in the familiarity of the second tier European competition alongside his former club. And to make matters worse, Luke Shaw responded to the Belgian international’s original tweet in great fashion, almost as if he was waiting for this to happen.
The fullback merely quoted his ex-colleague’s tweet with a caption that says “Welcome back” followed by a winking emoji. A great response to the original tweet, which now looks much more of a mock at United now that Shaw has acknowledged it.
