It was Mason Greenwood’s night as Manchester United treated Old Trafford to a 4-0 goal fest against AZ in the Europa League.

The 18-year-old netted two great goals for the Red Devils, making his season’s tally of 6 goals second best only to Marcus Rashford so far this campaign.

Further still, he was a constant threat throughout the game and kept up the pressure, always on the lookout for the next good chance.

Praises were lavished upon the teenager and no one was more pleased at his showing than manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking after the full time whistle, Solskjaer had this to say about Greenwood’s game: “He’s a natural footballer and the closer he gets to goal the more dangerous he is. Right foot, left foot, a nightmare for defenders, he just needs to develop his heading! Then he’ll be a proper striker.”

The Norwegian gaffer then went on to make an exciting comparison: “I’ve seen a few good ones [at Greenwood’s age]. I played with Wazza [Rooney], myself. Natural finishing, he’s one of the best I’ve seen, yeah. There was never any question on him going on loan, that decision was made towards end of last season.”

Manchester United 4-0 AZ Alkmaar: 3 Talking Points

“We knew we had a top talent there and this club is the best at recognising that and developing talent like this and there is no better place to be than here.”

Solskjaer even went on to lay out the ideal improvement path for the starlet, stating: “But it’s about sharing the minutes and finding the right minutes for him and, of course, he’s ready to play in the Premier League.”

Fans will be eagerly waiting to see plenty more football from the academy graduate, and he certainly seems hungry for more.
