Erling Braut Haaland has joined Borussia Dortmund in an £18million move, with the official signing to occur at the start of the winter transfer window.
This is a massive upset to Manchester United who have been linked to the 19-year-old striker for the better part of the past few weeks.
Multiple reports had indicated that Haaland was inching closer to an Old Trafford transfer with the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer link by virtue of their shared time at Molde being the factor that was banked to see the deal through.
In the end it was Dortmund that emerged victorious with the signature of the promising striker whose goal-scoring prowess put him on the radar of multiple big-name clubs in Europe.
Juventus were also reported to be linked to acquiring the striker, as were RB Leipzig.
Manchester United fans took to Twitter to react to the deal.
Solskjær flew to Austria to meet Erling Haaland and outlined his future plans for Man Utd.
Probably what made up his mind.

Many were saying that Haaland should join the Premier League, but I felt he was much suited for the Bundesliga. Develop himself as a player, ace in it and aim for a big move.

Haaland to Dortmund….embarrassing for Ole. Flirts that we're getting him and ends up with nothing. United recruitment shit again

Clear #mufc wanted Erling Haaland, given Bout’s scouting trip and Solskjaer’s day trip to Salzburg. Given Haaland’s age and development, he’s made the right move to Germany and wouldn’t have been a certain starter at United (whose priorities are a midfielder and playmaker).

Haaland really chose Dortmund over Man United because he didn’t want that smoke from Van Dijk again pic.twitter.com/fVQPg9OdHB

While it is no doubt that the deal to the Bundesliga giants will be an upset to United, there are also those who appear to be breathing a sigh of relief.
While the 19-year-old’s numbers are impeccable, they still arrive in a lesser league.
As of such, there are many who feel that United may have dodged a bullet by not going all-out for the striker.
However, the relatively paltry fee paid for him does make it appear like a deal lost. In particular, the fact that Haaland could be worth significantly more if he performs as expected at Dortmund and then is revisited by United is irksome.
It is understood that the youngster wants regular playing time at a major club. With this signing, he can certainly achieve that and almost assuredly set the path forward for something big.
As for United fans, they will not need to keep their eyes peeled for the next major transfer hopeful in January.
