Manchester United secured a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire heading their way to victory.

Chelsea were denied two goals on their part by VAR with Kurt Zouma’s creative attempt being disallowed due to a foul in the build-up while Olivier Giroud’s brilliant shot to try and bring back the scoreline was denied due to him being offside by a foot.

However, the game was a massively poor one for the London Blues who may be chiding themselves about the disallowed goals. The larger pathos of the game lay in the fact that the home side did not have a single shot on target for the vast majority of the game.

In fact, such was their woe that Odion Ighalo, who was brought on to make his Manchester United debut in the 91st minute and immediately went on to try and make it 3-0 if not for Caballero’s block, had the same amount of shots on target as the whole of Chelsea squad – an empathic single one.

This is a folly that Frank Lampard and company will have to sort out immediately. The London Blues are clearly hurting due to missing the prolific Tammy Abraham to injury, with the youngster being their source of 13 goals in the Premier League alone.

As for Ighalo, this brief cameo has appeared to confirm what fans were long hoping of him. At 30 years of age, the Nigerian striker is hungry for goals and while the minutes he spent on the pitch were far from holistic, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has a likely reliable fall-back option up-front, which hasn’t been the case for much of this season.

Just how well will Ighalo fare during his months at Old Trafford, and will that period be extended come summer?
