Manchester United were a sight to be reckoned with as they progressed to the Round of 16 of the Europa League on the back of a thumping 6-1 aggregate scoreline against Club Brugge.

The 5-0 win at Old Trafford was a thoroughly impressive one with goals coming in from Bruno Fernandes, Odion Ighalo, and Scott McTominay with Fred waiting until the final ten minutes to add two more of his own to the tally.

Interestingly, these were only Fred’s second and third goals for Manchester United respectively. His debut goal for the club came way back in 2018 against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

As such, Fred scored more goals on Thursday night than he had until that point as a Red Devil.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took notice of this and was apt in his banter, commenting after the game: “I wasn’t sure if I was gonna be alive the next time he scored a goal.”

Interestingly, the Norwegian gaffer had played an instrumental role in the goals, with his two substitutions of Tahith Chong and Jesse Lingard assisting the late brace from the Brazilian.

These numbers are also shocking given how he was purchased for Shakthar Donetsk due to his knack for the odd goal, amongst other things, with Fred averaging a goal every 10 or so games back then.

However, such a result is also a testament to how much the midfielder has developed under Solskjaer and has now become a fine player.

The rigor of English football has appeared to have finally molded Fred with the 26-year-old putting in some of his finest performances on the pitch, with the numbers backing him up.

Now, this consistency must remain for the long run and the player will undoubtedly become an indispensable part of the United squad, if not so already.
