Potential Lineups: Manchester United Vs Manchester City
The Manchester derby is nearly back and Old Trafford will spectate on Sunday as the two local rivals duke it out for crucial three points.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go into this game unbeaten in the last 9 games in all competitions while Manchester City, in addition to being less fatigue-riddled from an earlier FA Cup tie and a momentum-driven run of a win against Real Madrid and a Carabao Cup title win, will certainly fancy their chances.
Here’s how the two sides are likely to lineup for the fixture:
Manchester United
Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Lee Grant remain the assured absentees from the game due to injury woes that still plague the outfit.
However, it is the doubtful list that is potentially more worrying as Harry Maguire’s fitness for the derby after his rolled ankle woes will still remain on the fence for the last minute. Likewise, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James will be subjected to a late fitness test.
It will be interesting to see if Odion Ighalo will be gifted with a start due to his heroics against Derby County.
Goalkeeper: De Gea
Defenders: Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw
Midfielders: McTominay, Fred
Forwards: Greenwood, Fernandes, Martial; Ighalo
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s side too has injury woes, with Aymeric Laporte still out for a while. More worryingly, Kevin De Bruyne’s knock will mean that he too will be doubtful for the derby although there’s a strong chance he’ll scrape through enough fitness for a role.
Leroy Sane, while having recovered from his injury, will not be match-fit for the game just yet. Guardiola is not one to lose a battle and amidst all the poor news for the Sky Blues, a derby win would sit just right as a consolation.
Goalkeeper: Moraes
Defenders: Walker, Otamendi, John Stones, Mendy
Midfield: Gundogan, Rodri
Forwards: Mahrez, De Bruyne, Silva; Aguero
Formation: 4-2-3-1
