The trend of acquiring youngsters in the hope that their price will slowly increase with time may be a dubious endeavor in the post-pandemic economy.

The allure of such scouting missions was precisely so that the sort of fees that were paid for the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele would be aped. Now, that kind of transfer price tag could easily become a thing of the past.

Nevertheless, Manchester United may wish to try their hand at the same and for a player who has been on their radar for quite a while now.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are targeting Monaco’s Pietro Pellegri.

Despite making a firm mark since his early days itself, the 19-year-old Pellegri has been unable to register a real impact with the Ligue 1 side, battling severe injury crises.

Despite that, the report states that the Red Devils continue to be interested in him and have allegedly been scouting the Italian striker since he was 16.

Pellegri was the joint-youngest player to have made his debut in Serie A and clearly commands some potential yet.

On the back of the same, Monaco are expected to make the starlet a regular starter in their squad from next campaign.

As such, this alleged interest from the Premier League side may not be as easy to materialize into a deal as may initially appear so. Moreover, if any deal is meted out, the €30 million that was paid to Genoa in 2018 has to surely feature as a fee in the bare minimum.

Should the Old Trafford outfit utilize their transfer resources for a player who has been injury-prone and yet to make a concrete mark as a striker, or should fledging attacking talent amongst their own ranks be given the nod instead?
