Manchester United are looking like an attacking side once again and a huge chunk of their post-lockdown form is evidence of the same. The Red Devils are moving with the same swagger that was often characteristic of Sir Alex Ferguson’s sides back in the glory days.

The biggest proof of the offensive brilliance is the sheer amount of goals that the attacking trident has garnered across all competitions this season.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood have an enviable 60 goals between them this campaign, with Martial and Rashford’s 22 goals each building the lion’s share of the tally.

This has led one United legend to make a strong statement about the trio.

Phil Neville, while speaking to Match of the Day lavished high praise on the trio, stating: “I looked at it at the start of the lockdown and thought, “what areas do United need to invest in to close the gap to Man City and Liverpool?” Straight away I thought of the centre-forward [position]. But them two are now causing Ole that big of a problem.”

Nevill then goes on to make a strong statement, adding: “They’re the best three – with Greenwood – in the league, up there with the Liverpool front three and the City front three. I think they have the ability to interchange positions and link with each other. I don’t see any better.”

This is saying something given the firepower within the attacking tridents of Liverpool and Manchester City respectively. However, it cannot be denied that what makes United’s tally special is that Greenwood’s contributions have come from a relatively small number of game minutes given his short number of starts and influence largely coming from off the bench.

Given the creative prowess of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes behind them, it is sensational to think of what this trio could achieve in the years to come.
