Manchester United escapee Angel Gomes finds refuge in Ligue 1, but not for long.

The Englishman had looked like a very realistic prospect for a quality midfield that the Red Devils were looking to build.

However, since breaking through as the club’s youngest ever debutant, Gomes has failed to make a place for himself. The teenager broke the record set by Duncan Edwards back in the 1950s only to make just 10 senior appearances for the club, with just 4 of them coming in the Premier League.

It clearly must’ve been frustrating for the midfielder to win the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award right after making his first senior appearance and yet to be constantly overlooked in favour of other players.

Which is why the England U20 international decided not to renew his contract at Old Trafford and test the waters elsewhere. And according to A Bola, Lille have won the race to secure his services.

Many top European sides were said to be interested, but it was the French outfit that managed to lure him away. The deal is set to be concluded in the next few days.

However, the attacking midfielder will not spend the 2020/21 season at Lille but will be loaned off to Portuguese club Boavista, according to the report. The Ligue 1 side likely want him to be nurtured well before they can include him in their project which aims to challenge Paris Saint-Germain on a toe-to-toe basis.

The 19-year-old did not exactly become the prodigal heir to Mancunians’ midfield as the fans had hoped for, but he’s definitely a player of quality. If a club can believe the former United man could aid them in overthrowing the likes of PSG, then there’s definitely some potential in him.
