The modern game has finally seen players get their fair share of the cash pie.
While humungous transfer fees hog all the limelight and headlines, the actual wages that the players themselves make week in and week out often goes unnoticed. In the long run, it is this aspect of the transfer that clubs end up paying substantial amounts of money for as well as spending copious amounts of time fretting about in negotiation periods.
In this regard, Manchester United may have made two smart moves. Cementing the exit of Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan meant that the Red Devils were rid of his enormous weekly wages. On a more recent note, the club is allegedly all set to offer Dean Henderson a fresh contract which will see him make significantly more than his existing terms.
As such, the side’s list of top earners looks quite interesting now.
Sourced from The Sun, United players continue to make a decent buck but there is still some diversity at the top. David De Gea now slots in as their top earner making £350,000-a-week while Paul Pogba comes a close second with £290,000-a-week to his name.
In-form goal-scoring duo Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford aren’t separated by much with the Frenchman’s fortunes worth £250,000-a-week whilst the English forward slots in about £200,000-a-week. That difference does add up in the long run though with Martial making nearly £3 million more than the academy graduate annually.
The club’s new captain Harry Maguire comes in at no.5 with his modest £189,000-a-week, which is quite something given the fact that his transfer fee makes him the world’s most expensive defender.
Down the list, the figures that will probably surprise fans is that the club’s newest superstar Bruno Fernandes makes the same amount of money as Henderson is expected to at £100,000-a-week, although one does expect that to change in the years to come.
