Donny van de Beek has allegedly told his Ajax teammates that he is joining Manchester United.

The Dutchman’s future came into great amount of speculation after he was left out of his club’s friendly sessions on the weekend. Following the same, confirmation from Ajax’s manager that “developments” were indeed underway for the player’s exit furthered the rumours.

Now, it is clear that Manchester United and Barcelona are the possible destinations for the 23-year-old and the latest claims peg one club to be more likely than the other.

As per Sport, Donny van de Beek has told his Ajax teammates that he will be joining Manchester United this summer. Further, it is understood that the midfielder will travel to Manchester next week to finalize the deal.

This will come as a huge blow to Barcelona as the same source maintains that new manager and fellow Dutch international Ronald Koeman was eager for van de Beek to come to the Camp Nou. However, it is alleged that the La Liga giants could not offload enough players in time to raise funds for the target, allowing the Premier League side to beat them.

Further, the player’s pricetag is pegged at £49 million in this claim, a sum that Barca were supposedly not able to raise given their own transfer dilemmas. If true, the ongoing crisis of Lionel Messi wanting out from the club won’t help morale at all.

As for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and company, this potential deal only means good things as the quality and skillset he possesses will be a good addition to the side. While he will likely to be viewed as a back-up option for Bruno Fernandes, the Norwegian could certainly try and conceive of a way to see all his top midfielders feature in the starting lineup.
