What Frenkie de Jong & Robin van Persie Said About Donny van de Beek’s Transfer
Robin van Persie has an important assessment of Donny van de Beek’s move from Ajax to Man United.
The Dutchman is all set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first major addition of the summer and is touted for big things. He will join an already enviable midfield, adding to the prowess of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba, not to mention the waiting Fred and Scott McTominay.
There is vital advice that an experienced compatriot of his also has to give.
Robin van Persie, writing in De Telegraaf, had the following to say about the midfielder: “Donny van de Beek is 23 years old and that is a nice age to make a transfer to the Premier League.”
He outlined his own journey from Feyenoord and then to Arsenal and how the Premier League was a “whole different world.”
Van Persie then curtly added the challenges the starlet will have to be ready for at United, stating:
“Donny will be brought in as a major purchase from Manchester United, but he will discover that those other 22 players have also been brought in as a ‘major purchase’. One had an even bigger transfer than the other.
“It means that he has to stand there right away and he has to mentally adjust to that. Because Manchester United is in every way a beast of a club.”
From a separate source, fellow Dutchman Frenkie de Jong also opened up about the possibility that he had a role to play in the midfielder making the switch to Old Trafford, stating: “I spoke to Donny about his transfer. This is a beautiful transfer and we are all very happy for him. Did he ask me for advice? No, no, he can think by himself.”
Words that will be tested and seen in evidence once the upcoming season gets underway.
