Man Utd have reportedly agreed to a deal for Facundo Pellistri.
The absence of a world-class right-forward has plagued Old Trafford for far too long. This transfer window was expected to amend that with reports pegging Jadon Sancho to be the one-stop solution at the spot.
However, United’s long and frustrating attempt to acquire the 20-year-old Englishman has left supporters deeply bitter.
As such, it is unclear how they will feel about the side’s purported signing for the right-forward spot.
According to Sebas Giovanelli, Manchester United have agreed to a deal that will see 18-year-old Facundo Pellistri move to Old Trafford. The forward currently functions for his boyhood clubs Penarol in Uruguay. It is suggested that the teenager will arrive in Manchester on Monday.
It is fascinating that the Premier League club may have acquired two Uruguayan players in a matter of hours as Edinson Cavani is also believed to have been signed as a free-agent.
Add to it the ongoing talks for potentially buying Alex Telles and selling Chris Smalling and the end of this window for United could have more activity than months of drama altogether.
However, this will still not placate fans. Cavani is already being viewed as a clear panic-buy that wasn’t on the club’s wish-list and probably stems from Anthony Martial’s poor start to the campaign and Odion Ighalo’s looming exit in January.
As for Pellistri, the versatile forward is not certain to be a starter for the main team and if he is then it is a given that a lot of pressure and expectation is placed on him to perform and provide results. His promising style has see him compared to Lionel Messi by fans.
At this point the finer details of the transfer are unclear but the source did mention a probable €10 million transfer fee.
